Theme/Mood:
In the early 1950’s fraternal brotherhood lodges where very popular. The Knights of Columbus, The Masons, The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks, The Loyal Order Moose, The Shriners and so on. One of these orders was The Illustrious Association of the Phoenix. The IAP seemed to be like all the rest, a place where men could gather and be men. Of course there was the woman’s auxiliary, because well the woman folk needed their club too. In reality the IAP was the very public face of the Phoenix Concilium, and is still today. Here the Awakened of Phoenix gather to learn, to mingle and to plan.
The mystical symbology of the city’s very name draws Awakened to the area. What lays in her shrouded past, buried under a city that constantly rebirths itself? Could the dreams that drew the first Awakened here be a link to a new Atlantis? It has been over 50 years since those first Mages arrived, and still the mysteries deepen. Who knows, maybe you are the one destined to uncover them.
As shown in the styles of play below, the stories will focus on the dark mysteries of the area with complex plots that focus around the actions and concerns of the characters attached to the VSS.
Travel
Travel to and from the city of Phoenix (from locations outside the metro area) is typically by air or bus. Phoenix is surrounded by hundreds of miles of desert. The city has an extensive freeway system for those who drive. Please check with the VST for potential dangers for all travel to and from the Domain.
Storyteller Information:
Sanctum
Players are encouraged to submit a Sanctum description to match their Merit points. With out Sanctum Merit Points the character is assumed to be living in a studio apartment somewhere in Phoenix with a basic deadbolt for security.
Character Creation
All normal approval procedures are in place. The ST reminds all players that taking status does not grant positions in the city, only a certain respect and deference from other loyal members.
Character histories are a requirement for character approval and need to answer a minimum of 3 of the questions listed on pages 70-71 of the Mage: The Awakening book. In depth backgrounds can provide benefits, so long as they go beyond explaining just the basic background of the character. Characters with spotty, incomplete backgrounds can expect help from the ST staff filling them out for the purposes of advancing plot.
Challenge Resolution
Challenges are resolved as stated in the Mind’s Eye Theatre books and related Camarilla Fan Club addenda. Occasionally, a storyteller or narrator may make a ruling in the interest of promoting more role-play or to speed up a lengthy challenge. These rulings will stand at the time they are made. If any players have issues with the rulings made by a ST or narrator, they are encouraged to talk to the venue storyteller, after the game.
The 1-10 card system is the preferred method of challenge resolution of the VST. The ST reserves the right to inspect any card set. The ST also reserves the right to substitute his or her own 10-card set for any player’s 10-card set. Card sets will be inspected at check in. If a player does not have their own card set, the ST or Narrator’s set will be used.
Another preferred method will be to place a d10 die into a transparent plastic container, shaking it, then placing it down in plain sight. The ST also reserves the right to substitute his or her own 10-card set for any player’s d10 set. Dice sets will be inspected at check in.
All challenges will require an ST or Narrator witness. Any challenges thrown without a proper witness will be nullified.
Proxy/Out of Domain Attendance
Proxies will be addressed by the ST Staff as soon as possible. 72 hours advance is needed for proxies intended to be run at game. The ST assumes no responsibility for securing a player for the proxy, but will make every reasonable attempt to secure a player for the character. Downtime proxies for conversations and small scenes can reasonably be expected to be resolved in 72 hours, giving the ST time to determine what form of documentation will be required. A short summary or log of the meeting may be requested.
In all instances, the ST reserves the right to refuse visiting characters in an effort to preserve the VSS.
